The Unshakeable Anchor | Why nothing can separate you from the love of God

Some truths ask for time.

They aren’t meant to be rushed or skimmed. They need to be sat with—given quiet space to sink into the parts of us that feel fragile, worn out, or secretly afraid that we might finally be “too much.”

Romans 8:38–39 is one of those profound truths.

This verse isn’t meant to be passed over, and it's not just a slogan for difficult days. It’s an anchor—intended to hold firm when everything else feels unstable.

Paul begins this passage with a powerful statement: “I am convinced.” Not just hopeful and uncertain, but Convinced.

This message invites you to find that same unwavering confidence for your own soul.

When We Treat God’s Love Like a Signal

Many of us behave as if God’s love operates like a phone signal.

Strong when we’re near, weak when we stray, and gone when we make significant mistakes.

We believe that prayer, consistency, and “good behaviour” keep us connected—and failure pushes us into a dead zone.

However, Romans 8 gently quiets that fear.

Paul looks across the whole landscape of existence—life and death, the present and the future, spiritual forces, emotional extremes, the highest heights and the deepest depths—and says that none of it can separate us from God’s love. Not suffering. Not sin. Not silence. Not even drifting away. God’s love doesn’t fluctuate, it doesn’t weaken, and it doesn’t retreat. It remains steady and sure.

It is the atmosphere you live in—even when you can’t feel it.

When the Drift Feels Real

There are times when God seems distant.

Prayer feels silent, scripture appears lifeless, and your own mistakes seem more visible than His presence. In those moments, it's easy to think He has moved away.

However, Romans 8 gently corrects this notion: Even when we stray, His love remains steadfast.

When we think love is conditional, we hesitate to return. We try to clean ourselves up first and wait for a "better day."

But when we understand that love is unwavering, we return more quickly, with honesty. and humility.

God doesn’t greet us with a lecture; instead, He greets us with Himself.

Love That Endures at Every Depth

Paul writes, “neither height nor depth.”

This reminds us of something simple but important:

  • There is no spiritual high point where you finally arrive and never struggle again.

  • There is no emotional low so deep that it defines you as a failure.

There is no darkness too heavy, no season too broken, and no version of yourself that can push God away. Scripture actually shows the opposite: God moves toward our brokenness, not away from it. His love does not pull back in your lowest moments. Instead, it quietly settles in as the steady ground beneath you.

His love is not daunted by your lowest moments; rather, it finds its foundation there.
